| New York State Workplace Violence Prevention Act
What is required under New York State Law?
In June 2006 The New York State Legislature signed a new law "The New York State Workplace Violence Prevention Act." This law went into effect on October 5th, 2006. This law now mandates that every public employer with 20 or more employees must evaluate its workplace(s) to identify risk factors for violence. Further, the employer must develop a written workplace violence prevention program which in part provides training in conflict resolution, prevention policies, reporting systems for any incident(s), and non-violent ways of responding to violence. This training must be available to employees on an initial basis as well as annual refresher training.
